Yumi had heard the name before; maybe walking through the hallways.
“What happened back there?” She asked. Will turned to her and was glaring as if he was half amused and half annoyed at the question.
“You didn't listen to me, that's what happened.”
“How was I supposed to know that would happen?” She said defensively.
“Because I told you not to go in.” He replied. Yumi felt her cheeks burning with embarrassment because he was right.
“Well, what did you do in there, I heard a lot of banging and hitting but I couldn't see anything,” said Yumi, trying to change the conversation away from her being wrong. She also was wondering just about how much Will was capable of. She'd seen plenty of movies and tv shows, she wasn't totally sure that Will was on her side.
She doesn't trust me and she wants to know what I can do, Will thought. “There were a few people, I beat them, then grabbed you and ran.” He said, “Now the bigger question is, why are they after you?” To himself as well as to Yumi.
“Who are they?” She asked, she got up and looked at her wrists.
“It's complicated.” He replied, pulling out his phone.
“I've got time,” Yumi said. Leering at the phone, she read the name Cody off the screen.
“Not enough time,” said Will putting the phone away, and heading towards the double doors. Yumi looked around trying to gain her bearings and saw that they were at the bottom of the west wing hallway staircase. The fire escape doors to the back of the school was along the wall next to the stairs. The double doors that connected the hallway to the staircase were closed, which was strange because the doors aren't supposed to be closed during school hours.
“Who is Cody?” she asked. She saw that Will was behind the door not able to be seen from the other side.
“He's a friend,” he replied. They both waited a few minutes in silence until Will spotted someone walking towards them. Yumi stepped back, afraid about who it was. But then she recognized him from Spanish class.
“Hey, Yumi.”
“Hi, I assume you are Cody. Sorry, I forgot your name, I read it off of Will’s phone.” She confessed.
“That's fine, I've only been in your Spanish class for eight months.” Cody said jokingly. He was Caucasian, about 5’ 11”, had black hair and dark brown eyes.
Yumi, why did it have to be Yumi, Cody thought to himself. “So they’re after her.” Cody said questioningly.
“Yeah, but I haven't figured out why.” Said Will.
“Are “they” the guys from the office?” Asked Yumi.
“It’s complicated.” Said Cody.
“Ok, then who are you guys?” She asked.
“It's complicated.” Replied Will, pointing at something down the hall to Cody.
“What's not complicated?” Yumi asked irritated at the game that they were playing.
“The second theory in thermodynamics, but right now we really should focus on the serious things.” Said Cody. Yumi opened her mouth to demand answers, however, before she could, Will and Cody ran back to her. Four men burst through the doors and three more ran down the stairs, they were trapped.
